The five-year visa exemption allows Vietnam-born passport holders to enter Vietnam multiple times for a five-year duration without re-applying for entry visa. For each entry, the subject is allowed to stay no more than 180 days. After 180 days the subject must leave the country, and then re-enter again without renewing the visa.
- The subject must have pertinent documents to prove that he was a Vietnamese before becoming a citizen of another country. Acceptable documents are birth certificate; citizen certificate (issued pre-1975 and after); Vietnamese passport; voter registration.
- Visa must be valid for at least one year.
- Not be included into category that prohibits entry and exit Vietnam laws.

- Application for visa exemption Form NA9/ Circular 04/2015/TT-BCA
- Two 4×6 photos, with one attached to the application.
- Valid passport with at least one year remains before expiration date.
- Document proving formerly a Vietnam-born person.
